Opinion / FFA Opinion: If Julius Peppers really signs with Washington
« Last post by Footballforall on March 04, 2010, 10:52:23 pm »
Wow talk about being careful what you wish for. Here, Julius Peppers gets an amazing offer from the Panthers who, with their new highly skilled Quarterback, could actually be a front runner for the Super Bowl next year, and he declines!

And now it is reported that he is about to reach a deal with the Washington Redskins who have just as horrible of an offense as the Panthers had last year. The Redskins just last year signed Albert Haynesworth to, what was reported, the biggest contract by defensive lineman, ever! (over 100 Million).

If the Skins really do make this deal, they sure better have fixed their defensive line to the point that the opposing QB has no time at all to throw the ball and the running backs have no holes to run through because that's a lot of money to dish out to two d-lineman.

Washington, last year, had a pretty decent defense. They need more help on offense. And I do, in my mock draft (http://footballforall.createaforum.com/joe%27s-mock-draft/joe%27s-mock-draft/), have them taking Sam Bradford, but they also need help at wide receiver and running back. Clinton Portis can't carry the entire load, they just released Cartwright, Gainther had a few good games, but who else do they have if Portis get injured or doesn't return to his previous form?

Julius Peppers is like a Randy Moss type player. He'll play extremely hard for you when the team is winning. But he disappears when you are not. Or maybe he was just sick of being in Carolina.

Regardless, Peppers could definitely find a better place to go and I'm sure there are PLENTY of teams on the Super Bowl hump that will give him a shot; even if the fire isn't there anymore.

Opinion / FFA Opinion: Release of Jake Delhomme
« Last post by Footballforall on March 04, 2010, 10:28:39 pm »
This was an impending action for many months, possible years. Jake Delhomme hasn't been that effective since his Super Bowl XXXVIII loss to the Patriots in 2004. In that game the Pats and Panthers traded punches all the way to the wire. With the Patriots coming out on top 32-29.

Since then though, his production and effectiveness have all but crumbled. In 2004 he threw for 3800 yards 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He's only thrown for 3000+ yards twice since, 2005 and 2008. Last year he threw for a miserable 2000+ yards with 8 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in ONLY 8 GAMES!

To say the least, he wasn't very good. And now with Matt Moore at the helm, coupled with their effective running attack, will Julius Peppers entertain re-signing with the Panthers? They did offer him 14 million a year. Stay tuned...

Mock Drafts / Re: Joe's Mock Draft

Now if Jerry Jones would get his head out of his ass for two seconds, he'd send a 3rd round pick to Arizona for Anquan Bolden and release Roy 'Garbage' Williams. With an uncapped year, the guaranteed money could be swallowed in the same year that Williams' is released. And, although it is a huge chunk of change, it will not count against the cap. And, personally, I'd much rather eat the money for a player no longer on the team than to pay a player that kind of money plus his normal salary to hinder my team because he 1. can't catch 2. is lazy 3. doesn't run correct routes 4. is slow 5. can't break tackles and 6. is always bitching about something.

If we keep him, I hope he makes me have to pull my foot out of my mouth.

A. Benn or G. Tate would be solid pick ups for Dallas late in the first, but there is no way dallas goes WR with any of there picks this year they are invested in Roy Williams, Miles Austin has become a star and they Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd.

Opinion / Proposed NFL Schedule
« Last post by Joe on March 03, 2010, 01:03:30 am »
The NFL has many issues concerning their schedule. And a lot of people will think it's crazy to change it because they are afraid of change. The old saying "if it's not broken, why fix it?" is just a chliche. Nonetheless, there are plenty of "broken" aspects to the NFL's scheduling.

First of all, they should keep the 16 week format. But instead of having some teams having a bye week at week 4 and some not having a bye week until week 10, there should be two bye weeks the entire year. The bye weeks should be either weeks 9 & 10.

The problem with the setup now is that if a team suffers a string of major injuries in weeks 1-3 and do not have a bye week until week 10, they are basically done. This is especially true if their divisional opponents have bye weeks in weeks 7+ and do not sustain many injuries.

This is also true for those who have really early bye weeks. If a team has a bye week in week 4, and they are a playoff team without a bye in the playoffs, they will have to potentially play 16 games in a row if they make it to the Super Bowl. That is a lot of football.

The other major issue with the NFL is their sudden death overtime rule. I understand the rule. I mean if a team has 60 minutes to win a game and they don't get it done, that's their fault. However, if the NFL would adopt the college rules, at least in part, then OT would be much more fair. For example, how about just having one series each and then sudden death after that.

And that, my friends, is how the NFL can greatly improve their seasonal scheduling.
